Great teachers that are truly dedicated to their job. Principal...not so much. Kids with disabilities are not welcomed there and are discriminated against. Mr. Kooy makes hasty, unwarranted decisions. He was disrespectful and hateful in regards to my child. He is prideful and would not consider others opinions. The word Christian was abused to its fullest. No grace shown. Having worked with children and families for 20 years I have never dealt with such utterly shocking comments. Would not recommend this school to anyone that has children that are not perfect and doing well in all aspects of school.
If sports matter to you and your children, then look no further. We have more opportunities for you child to get involved (and actually play) that most schools in the area.
Being a part of a growing Christian school is an exciting and unfortunately rare thing in the area.
We have 4 children and we have been sending our children to Highland Christian Academy (formerly Southland) since 2007. We have had one graduate and she had no problems getting into the school of her choice. We have been so happy with this school over the years that I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone that cares about the moral guidance and academic rigor your children are getting. We like the fact that it has a family feel, i know all the teachers by first name and can access them anytime I need. I can actually have an ongoing dialog with a teacher that cares about my child and does what they say they will do. The fact that character is built into the curriculum and actively thought is very important to us. And yes Christ is in this school.
Our children have been at HCA for 8 years. The decision to chose HCA and to continue to re-enroll has been largely based on the faculty. The teachers really care about the students and work as ally's to parents in helping to find the strengths of their children and helping them to improve on their weaknesses. The diversity at the school also provides a "real world" atmosphere. HCA is the only independent Christian school in Valdosta; this also adds to the real world diverse experience as students attend there from over 30 differnent church backgrounds. If you are considering a Christian School, then visit HCA and compare the other schools to them.
If your looking for the "Perfect school" good luck. Let me know when you've found it. If your looking for the best Christian school with strong academics, great people and good selection of extracurricular and athletics programs than you should take a look at the New Highland!
Save yr money..the kids in this school were worse than Brooks Co public school. They stole my son's lunch, sweat shirt etc and when you tell the teachers etc they ASSume your kid is the problem because your kid is new. This is a rude clicKY place, the kids been here years can LIE CHEAT STEAL..and don't get punished.. Teachers don't want to,help, kids who have bad grades, people don't welcome new kids its like they only cater to the ones who have been there life long...they were teaching Korean but because my son wasn't there the year before he got no foreign language class....I WASNT IMPRESSED WITH THIS SCHOOL MY SON WAS THERE HALF A YEAR I TOOK HIM OUT AND HOMESCHOOLED HIM..
